Techniques of Manufacturing:
“The clay, an exclusive material of the city of Fez, is extracted from a particular place called “Ben Jellik”. The first step is to transport the clay to this location, where it is left to dry for 20 days. When When it is dry, we use a large hammer to break it into small pieces, then it is left to dry again all day before being immersed in water for two days.
Then, We let it dry again all day before putting it in water for two days. Afterwards, employees work to clean the clay of rocks and any other unwanted materials. This distinctive activity of Fez is closely linked to the energy of the sun.
Other artisans skillfully shape the clay paste to create basins, vases, pots, plates... all these products are made by hand, Each of these products is the result of inherited artisanal work and passed down from generation to generation.
Once shaped, the artisanal products are baked in the oven for 8 hours at 2000°C. Then comes the painting stage, carried out with colors from natural resources. Horsehair brushes are used to apply different shades such as blue, red, black etc...
Once the painting is completed, the products are coated with a substance that gives them a special shine. They then return to the oven for 8 hours, cooking on burnt wood. These finished products are ready to be used in our daily lives, whether with cold or hot water, the paint is durable."
